Understanding
DISC

Overview

The DISC Model of Behavior is the result of the original theoretical work of William Moulton Marston, who had a Ph.D from Harvard. In 1928 he wrote a book titled: The Emotions of Normal People where he proposed a system of psychology that used the acronym DISC. Although this was not the first model of human behavior created (Hippocrates applied much regarding temperments) most of the assessment systems available today are related to the version of either DISC or Myers Briggs – which was developed by Carl Jung.

So where do you fit in the DISC Model of Behavior? The most important thing to remember is – you are actually all four types! That’s right! Each of us contains all four types to some degree. Studies show that 80% of us are dominant in two of the four types, but some people are even in all four personality types. We refer to this person as being “level”.

Here’s a quick explanation of the above graphic. There are two personality types that are OUTGOING – these would be the “D” and the “I” types. (we’ll describe what the letters represent below). The other two personality types are RESERVED, meaning the “S” and “C” types. If you compare the left side of the graphic to the right side, you will notice that two personality types are TASK ORIENTED – the “D” and “C” types, and two are PEOPLE oriented. The PEOPLE oriented types are the “I” and “S” types. So, if you are OUTGOING and TASK ORIENTED, you are dominantly a “D” type! Remember that you contain all four types to some degree! See below for a list of descriptions for each type along with the word each letter represents!

Angel Tucker’s presentation was terrific. She has a great understanding on how each personality works in all situations and is able to demonstrate that verbally, physically, and with great expression. She also understands how each personality interacts with the other and is able to bring it to life for the class.

Angel does a fabulous job of nailing each personality.

She is very entertaining and presents the information in a way that is easy to understand each personality and how we can identify each one. My personal relationships have improved since learning about the personalities and how I can understand how others think and function.

Your training has changed my life.Knowing that I am a strong type “D” personality, it has helped me understand my impatience with others when I want to “get to the point and move on” in discussions. I try to be more understanding in this regard.

Leisa Toops

Angel’s training taught me a new way to understand others.

I’ve had a hard time with “D” personalities (even though I was married to one) because I always thought they should not be rude, mean, sarcastic, etc. to other people. I am going back to the office with a new attitude to handle “D” personalities. Thank You!
